The 3rd Temple
You will find this mark

on the above
time line which denotes the Church age of approx. 2000 yrs.
Commentary: In our last lesson we discussed how the 2nd temple in 70AD was
destroyed by the Roman armies under general Titus. They burned it in order to
get the gold that ran between the stones and fullfilled the prophecy that Jesus
gave when he informed his disciples that not one stone would be left standing.
That 2nd temple was completed in 515 BC and stood for approximently 585 yrs.
Next I would like to study the temple that has been here on the earth for almost
2000 yrs. now during the church age.
The spirit of the living God is living in that temple or church. It is the one
Jesus spoke of to the woman at the well. You can find it here.
John
4th chp
and
in Luke 9 24-36
Jesus at one point when confronted by the Pharisees and priest about the temple said to them" Destroy this temple and I will raise it up in 3 days". They said" You say you can restore it in 3 days, it took many years to build this temple" "Jesus said you have heard but not understood". What he meant was when they destroy or killed his body he would raise it up again in 3 days. Here he was speaking of his body as the temple.
The new testament also speaks in other places about our body as the temple. Jesus is the chief corner stone of this temple we are discussing today. He is also spoken of in the New Testament as the head of the body, or temple, and we as individual members of his body, or as lively stones with different gifts.
At one point in his ministry Jesus asked Peter whom do men say that I am. Please
read below what Peter
said.
13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,
saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that
thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the
prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter
answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus
answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood
hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18And I say
also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock
I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever
thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt
loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20Then charged he his disciples that
they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
We see here Jesus speaking of building his church. In the first and second chps.
of Acts we see the 1st day or
the birth of the church. It becomes Gods temple on earth for the entire period
of the time of the Gentiles. It Is also known as the Church age or the age of
grace.
The temple he is speaking of is not one that is built of literal stones or
blocks but is a temple that cannot be seen, except by faith. It is built on our
faith, or belief that Jesus is the Son Of God; Just like Peters statement of
belief. Jesus wasn’t speaking of building on Peter but he would build his church
on that type of faith that Peter exemplified. Without faith in Jesus the Son Of
God it is impossible to please God.
Where ever born again Christians meet together to worship God, he is in their midst.
If you are a Christian your body is the temple of God. The Bible states “know
you not that your body is the temple of God” and further states that he that
destroys his temple, God will destroy. We are not to pollute it with fornication.
The Bible also states that that fornication is a sin against our own body.
My thoughts on this matter also, are that we should take care of our health as
best we can. We shouldn’t tattoo it or place graffiti on the temple, or body
that God has given us to live in here on this earth. We should within reason, eat and
drink properly and avoid drunkenness and drug addition etc.
If you have already abused your body by doing some of these things repent and
ask Jesus to forgive you. He will. He will cleanse you by his precious sinless
blood that he shed on Calvary.
Repent or be sorry for your sins, and forsake them. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and be your personal Lord and Savior. Tell him that you believe that he is the Son of God, just like Peter did. Be baptized as the Bible states and he will then give you the Holy Spirit.
The Holy spirit will take up residence in your spirit and body. Just as he abode in the Holy of Holies in old testament he will abide in you. He will deliver you from any evil bondage. The Holy Spirit will help you live for him. He will help you pray, overcome bad habits, and sin. He will help you to understand the Bible.
Begin attending a church or body of believers, read the Bible and live like it tells you to live. In one place in the Bible where God was speaking of the new covenant that Jesus would make, he said I will write my laws in their hearts.
Instead of writing the laws of the Christian dispensation on stone he would write them in our hearts. His temple in the church age or Christian dispensation has nothing to do with stones and blocks but flesh and blood and spirit.
That is what happens when we study the Bible and internalize his word and
teachings into our minds and hearts. The New Testament or Covenant also speaks
that he would circumcise (or change) our hearts and minds. We
see how many of the things of the Old Testament have their more complete
fulfillment in the New Testament.
After you are saved show mercy and forgiveness to others; as you have received mercy,
grace and forgiveness.
The Bible further states that we are not our own, for we have been created by and
purchased by God. The Bible tells us how to live a good life here for him.
He doesn’t ask us to commit suicide for him, and kill others. He wants us to live for
him and teach others to live for him, so we all can have eternal life in his
beautiful kingdom that he has prepared for us before the foundation of the
world.
The building we meet in is not the church. It is not a beautiful cathedral with stained glass windows, nor a little house church,
where people have to meet in secrete, like believers in China.
In our earlier studies we learned that Gods glory abode in the Holy of Holies
in the Jewish temple. But because of sin God, removed his glory from the temple
and it was never seen there again. That was in the days of a man named Ichabod. His name means the glory of God has left.
The church or temple is in the bodies of believers wherever they are. He is in
you when you are alone. He is also in you when you meet together with other believers to worship God in
Church services, whether it be in a building, or on a river bank. God is there, living
in the individuals and in the corporate worship of those individuals.
By the way, you don't have to be baptized in a Church baptistery. You can be, but you also can be baptized in a river, canal, or ocean. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan river. You don't have to be Baptized by a priest or preacher. Any born again Christian that is living for God can baptize a new convert.
When you become a born again Christian you should become a witness for Jesus Christ and lead others to him. That is how the faith spreads. Share the Bible with everyone that is interested or willing to receive the Gospel message. They must be willing. We can't force anyone.
God does not want robots, or some one that was forced to receive him. He wants those who, after learning of him, want, to willingly love and follow him. There are millions of Christians in China that multiply like that. They are persecuted by the communist government. They meet in secret. The church in America is begining to see the government and liberal, politically correct society, infringe on the freedom of religion.
The Bible also tell us in the new testament " do not forsake the gathering
together as the manner of some is". It also states the disciples met on the
1st day of the week, or the Lords day which is Sunday. The people of God are his temple, and the place
where he abides during this dispensation called the Church age.
Acts 1
1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to
do and teach, 2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the
Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3To whom
also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being
seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of
God:
4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should
not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith
he, ye have heard of me. 5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be
baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt
thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7And he said unto them,
It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in
his own power. 8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come
upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea,
and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from
Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. 13And when they were come in, they went up
into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew,
Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and
Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14These all continued with one
accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus,
and with his brethren.
15And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the
number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) 16Men and brethren,
this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth
of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
18
Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 19And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
20For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishopric let another take. 21Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
23And
they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and
Matthias. 24And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of
all men, show whether of these two thou hast chosen, 25That he may take part of
this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he
might go to his own place. 26And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell
upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Acts 2 Commentary: Notice above, that Jesus told them to remain in Jerusalem
until they received the power of the Holy Ghost, and then they would go into all
the world to preach the Gospel. Christians receive power and different gifts of
the spirit after they accept Christ and are Baptized in to into his body or
church. The Holy Spirit helps us understand the Bible. He gives us power to say
no to sin. He helps us in our prayer life, and helps us witness and teach
others.
The Birthday of the Church
33AD
1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in
one place. 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty
wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared
unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation
under heaven. 6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and
were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not
all these which speak Galilaeans?
8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. 12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another,
What meaneth
this? 13Others mocking said, These
men are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto
them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto
you, and hearken to my words: 15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing
it is but the third hour of the day.
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
29Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God
hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto
Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of
the Holy Ghost.
39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all
that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40And with many
other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this
untoward generation. 41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:
and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45And sold their possessions and goods, and
parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with
one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their
meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47Praising God, and having favour
with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be
saved.
Commentary:
The holy spirit of God which in times past, resided in the Tabernacle and the
holy of holies in Solomon’s temple, now abides in the Church. The Jews have had
no temple since 70Ad when it was destroyed. They lost their temple 33 yrs.
after the crucifixion of Jesus. They have been without their temple for approx. 2000 yrs.
The temple of God has been present in the
individual Christian believers and the corporate body of Christ, (the Church)
Israel will not be able to rebuild their 3rd temple until Christ takes the born
again believers to heaven ( the rapture of the Church) God apparently will not
have two temples on earth at the same time.
We will read more about the construction of Israel’s 3rd, or tribulation temple, in a subsequent
lesson on the different temples.
1st Cor. 12
27Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28And God hath set
some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers,
after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of
tongues. 29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers
of miracles? 30Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all
interpret? 31But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more
excellent way.
1st Cor.3:9
16Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth
in you? 17If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the
temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
1 Peter 2
1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies,
and all evil speakings, 2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word,
that ye may grow thereby: 3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of
God, and precious,
5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be
to the king, as supreme; 14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him
for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15For
so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance
of foolish men: 16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of
maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 18Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21For even hereunto were ye called:
because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should
follow his steps: 22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23Who,
when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but
committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24Who his own self bare our
sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto
righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25For ye were as sheep going
astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Commentary:
This temple we have been talking about in this lesson will never be destroyed
like the earthly temples of stone. Jesus will come for this church or temple of
born again Christians and take them to heaven.
We will have the marriage feast in heaven, where Jesus will be united, with his
wife the church, or body of Christ. We will return with him to earth on white
horses as described in the 19 chp. Of Revelation. We will then rule and reign with
him for a thousand years as described in the 20th chp. Of Rev. After the 1000
yr. Reign of Christ here on earth, we will enter the New Heaven and Earth
described in the remaining chapters of Revelation.
The rapture of the church (or taking of all the born again believers to heaven )
is described below.
1 Thessalonians 4
1Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus,
that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye
would abound more and more. 2For ye know what commandments we gave you by the
Lord Jesus. 3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye
should abstain from fornication:
4That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; 5Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: 6That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. 7For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. 8He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
9But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye
yourselves are taught of God to love one another. 10And indeed ye do it toward
all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that
ye increase more and more; 11And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own
business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12That ye may
walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of
nothing.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them13But I which
are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14For if we
believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus
will God bring with him. 15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord,
that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent
them which are asleep. 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught
up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall
we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Commentary: The Priesthood of all believers.
While the Old Testament, particularly in Leviticus, gave elaborate ceremonies for the ordination of priests, the New Testament contains none. The reason that there is no ordination ceremony for the priesthood in New Testament is that it teaches the priesthood of all believers.
Speaking to Christians (not clergy ) Peter wrote, "Ye also, as lively stones , are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ". (1 Peter 2:6-8). Peter then discussed the importance of Christ, who was rejected by the builders (religious authorities), but became the precious "chief corner stone" of the church to believers (1 Peter 2;6-8)HE THEN ADDED, "YE ARE A CHOSEN GENERATION, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD , AN HOLY NATION A PECULIAR PEOPLE ; THAT SHOULD SHOW FORTH THE PRAISES OF HIM ( 1 Peter 2-9)
Under the old covenant, the priest was to intercede between God and man, and to offer the necessary sacrifices to God, Peter said that Christians are "an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices." Paul described the nature of the proper sacrifices Christians should offer: Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service" (Romans 12-1 ) The reasonable service of Christians is to present their bodies as living sacrifice to God, God condemned King Saul for taking it upon himself to offer unauthorized sacrifices (1 Samuel 13:12-13; 15:22) so the priesthood of all believers is a significant change.
The emphasis of the New Testament is that every individual member of the church is important, Paul compared the church to a human body, with Christ as its head and the body made up of all the members (Romans 12:4-5 and Colossians 1:18) As individual members of the body of Christ, all Christians as a Royal Priesthood and a holy Priesthood," having a ministry to the world. When the church was under great persecution by the Jews, the apostles remained in Jerusalem, but members scattered and "went every where preaching the word" (Acts 8:4). Those preaching the word were simply Christians, members of the church.
Since Christians are a royal priesthood, there is no need for an earthly priesthood to intercede for Christians with God. All Christians may approach God directly through Christ in prayer. At the same time, each member of this holy priesthood has a responsibility to minister, living a life of purity before the world.
When Jesus was on the cross, as he died there was a great earthquake and the veil of the temple was torn asunder, or in half, from top to the bottom. It was made of a beautiful heavy material. A man could not have torn it. It was torn by an angel.
This was symbolic that Jesus is the sacrificial lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. When the veil of his flesh was torn for our sins, he made the way for us to enter boldly into the holy of holies, in heaven, where God the father resides. It was like the priest of old when they entered the holy of holies to intercede to God for Israel.
Jesus said if we believe in him we could pray directly to his father and his father would answer so that our joy might be full. We as born again Christians are a holy priesthood and can enter boldly into the holy of holies in heaven and pray to the father. Jesus has redeemed us as fallen men and women back to God. Jesus has sanctified and cleansed us of all sin. But we must not dishonor him by continuing to live in sin once we have come to Christ.
During the dispensation of the law of Moses, only the head priest could go in behind this curtin once per year to offer sacrifice as an atonement. This was the room called the Holy of Holies, where the ark of the covenant sat. There were two golden angels with wings. They faced each other on top of the ark. This was also called the mercy seat.
A rope was tied around the leg of the priest. If the priest had unconfessed sin in his life he would drop over dead and he would be pulled form the holy of holies by another priest.
Christ is our high priest
Matthew 27
1When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: 2And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. 7And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
8Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. 9Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; 10And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
11And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. 12And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. 13Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
14And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. 15Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. 16And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. 17Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? 18For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. 20But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
21The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. 22Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. 23And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
24When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. 25Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
26Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. 27Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
29And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. 31And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. 32And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
33And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, 34They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
35And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36And sitting down they watched him there; 37And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. 39And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
41Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. 43He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
44The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. 45Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. 48And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
50Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
55And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: 56Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
57When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple: 58He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. 59And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. 62Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, 63Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. 65Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
The Veil of the Temple is Torn
Heb 414Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Commentary: When Jesus died the Bible teaches that he entered into the Holy of Holies once for all sin and the veil of his flesh was torn. The tearing of the veil in the temple at the time of his crucifixion, was symbolic that the way was now clear for all to enter( both Jew and Gentile). We may now inter boldly in the presence of God the father. We don't have to have a priest do it. Jesus has done it for us.
Jesus said if we believe that he is the son of God We can pray directly to his father and he will hear and answer so that our joy would be full. He made the way for us to enter into Gods throne room or Holy of Holies in Heaven by the way of prayer.
So we see that the third temple is present on earth but not seen by unbelievers. It is invisible to them. It is in the individual and cooperate body of believers.
After God takes the Church to heaven at the rapture of the Christians, Israel will build their next temple. It will be actually the 4th temple and is called the tribulation temple which the antichtist will pollute. In the book of Daniel it is called the abomination of desolation. Jesus spoke of this also.
endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. 23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25Behold, I have told you before. 26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Commentary here: Apparently God doesn't want 2 temples on earth at the same time. The tribulation temple won't be built until the 3rd temple is taken to heaven. The 4th temple will be the tribulation temple and will be destroyed also to make way for the 5th or millennial temple of Jesus the Messiah
The 5th temple will be great and stand until the 1000 yr. reign of Jesus from Jerusalem is completed, and we enter into the New Heaven and earth. We will visit these other temples in our next lessons in this series. Please return to study with us
God bless you visitors to our web site.
